Our Sixth Week at Sleeping Indian, Jolly Harbour – Part
Two ![]() ![]() Thursday the 30th. A repeat of yesterday with the other palm. I left Bear to
it as I wanted to paint the original green bit of wall ready for the new air con
units. ![]() ![]() I had fun when I saw a hole in the back of
Bear’s shirt and ripped it off completely. Soon my lovely
assistant had the hole dug and in went the other
chap. Finally, things look as if they are taking
shape. ![]() ![]() I potted a yellow
trumpetbush in the old mop bucket that has served us as a bucket., the
poor bush had been fighting for survival when it was shoved in with the palm
(above). Then together, we set about digging a sink
hole for the new shower and back filled it with the bricks we had dug
out. The plank shows where the shower tray will end. We put out the solar lights
we bought in St Helena, all we can do for now until we have the car port post
repaired and find a few bags of chipping. Lost at backgammon, crushed at Mex
Train..... Needless to say we went to bed with sore
hands. ![]() Friday the 1st of
May. Ian and Lloyd came at nine to assess our jobs. We liked Lloyd very
much and as he has worked for Ian for the past eighteen years, dependable too.
Measuring, a few scratches of chins but we were reassured that everything was
do-able. Now we must wait for quotes, tick off the important ones and save for
any we cannot afford this year for next. The skip was collected, we were rather
proud to have filled it so much just using our
limited tools. Bear with his wood saw and crowbar, me with my trowel and hand
cultivator or baby rake as I call it. No spade and fork I hear you ask, not at
the prices here, plus the exorbitant outlay amount just for the one job.
![]() ![]() We were eating lunch when
Iain (other builder) appeared with a young chap and proceeded to take up a
couple of pieces of decking. Work arranged to be done yesterday but a
no-show.....and before we met Lord Ron. I went to shower as Lady Ronnie was due
to collect us at half two to take us to her house so I could see what a white
sprayed kitchen looks like. Shortly after I had finished I heard a fountain on
the deck and looking over from the balcony saw that the young chap had beheaded
the outside water tap...... The decking supports
are in bad shape, some quite rotten.
![]() Behind the sea wall which
is about half way across the deck should be back filled with rubble and concrete
but we have a gaping, deep hole that will
have to be put right – yet another job on the list..... Lady Ronnie came on the
dot and we left the two men to tidy up, reconnect the tap and close up behind
them. We had a wonderful afternoon, we loved the white kitchen and sat on the
patio with many a sherbet going through our job list and much laughter. Back by
six, nothing for it but to watch some animal programs and a couple of episodes
of Lucifer. Quite a
day. ![]() ![]() Saturday the 2nd. I woke
in the night with a plan – use the bedside cabinets and big dresser from the
front bedroom in our room while ours go away to be converted (sprayed) from dark
brown to white. After breakfast my beautiful assistant got to the task and soon
his ‘temporary’ unit was in place. Getting the big
one down the stairs was a bit of a task, thankfully the small ones were easier. ![]() ![]() The two small
units were piled in front of the big one, they will be joined by the five
doors tomorrow and as soon as we buy the automotive paint (more hard-wearing
than domestic), we can arrange for them to go on their ‘olidays. Bear then went
outside to move the gas cylinder connections as
Richard and Joel think the two air con outside parts will fit below the lounge
one, fingers crossed. ![]() ![]() Favourite pictures of the week are the before and after garden shots.
