Sakatia Lunch and Bimble

A slack start, a loss at backgammon (great) growl, small outboard onto Baby Beez, off ashore for lunch and a bimble. As we set off from Beez we saw our next-door-neighbours (Canace) getting into their dinghy. We followed - a zig-zag course in passing rocks, reefs and shallows. Once beached we were very happy to meet Kevin and Irma from South Africa. We all settled in Celestine’s, the lady of the house was not to be found so we bimbled along the beach. Celestine found us and if we were not in a hurry she would fire up and cook for us. We ordered grilled fish, plenty of time to chat as we had an hour to fill, time flew. Wonderful to see youngsters on the beach having fun.

High jinks and horse races.

Puffy, light, local ‘things’ arrived with mixed salad as a starter. The things, must find out what they are called, look like palm-sized inflated pillowcases and once flattened make like a crispy roti to hold a spoon or two of salad. Our fish to share came with mixed veg, coconut rice a dish with octopus which I declined but was told “delicious”, mmmm. Fresh papaya for afters.

The tide went out quite a bit further and Baby Beez was left ‘up the beach’.

After lunch we headed for the hotel at the far end of the beach passing a ‘work in progress’, a tiny shop and a few small eateries. This is the first time we have bimbled and enjoyed another couple since India........

A slightly shabby lady.

A typical everyday craft.

I sent Bear in for perspective.

Reminded me of Calendar Girls when Helen Mirren says “Lawrence, we’re going to need considerably bigger buns”. Width – not for my hips, dear, considerably more planking........

Now that’s more my size. Bear, Kevin and Irma appraise this girl.

Our new friends tell us that a good snorkel is to the right, lots of big turtles to swim with. Sounds like Sunday is planned.

We bimble to the far end of the beach and enter the garden of the Sakatia Lodge. Really didn’t think the first plant we would see was love-lies-bleeding, perhaps my least favourite of all.

Heading back to the dinghies the tide had gone a long way out. Four people lifting, they were soon floating. I stopped to look at this local lady fitted with an outboard engine as Bear headed off Baby Beez in tow.

I saw no point in wading after the paddling pair, so I took a short cut stage left.

Looking back toward the shore. A lovely little seaside village with very friendly residents.

A traditional lady. We followed Kevin and Irma back to their yacht to enjoy a cuppa.

Back on Beez, we had an overnight guest who flew off on the morrow.

ALL IN ALL SMASHING
