The Plantations as they are
today
Montpelier Plantation is a Relais and Chateaux, AAA Four
Diamond Hotel and Restaurant. Recently refurbished, it features seventeen
air-conditioned rooms in thirty acres of landscaped tropical gardens with
breathtaking views overlooking Charlestown and St Kitts. This three hundred year
old former sugar plantation includes a sixty foot freshwater pool, two gourmet
restaurants, tennis, private two acre Caribbean beach. Children over eight years
old are welcome.
Entering the grounds of the Golden Rock Inn we saw wild monkeys. This hotel is perched
one thousand feet up, an exotic getaway, ocean views and another fifty foot
fresh water pool. The unique sugar mill with boldly coloured cottages
complete with four poster beds, island antiques and original art.
The Nisbet
Plantation, home and birthplace of Fanny Nisbet is the only historic
plantation inn located on a beach. Thirty six air conditioned cottage suites are
nestled in the thirty acres of well trimmed tropical gardens. Nisbet was voted
number one Luxury Resort in the Caribbean in TripAdvisor's 2008 Traveler's
Choice Awards. There are three restaurants, tennis, pool, hot tub, spa, fitness
centre and half a mile of white sand beach. Per day a junior suite is US $877,
lower deluxe $761, deluxe garden $761 and superior room $656 plus 10%
VAT and 11% service charge. The price tags include bed, breakfast, afternoon tea
and dinner. However the three central advertising shots, do not really show
the Atlantic sea and its roughness, the rocky reefs reaching all the way to the
beach - we didn't fancy it.
The
Hermitage another 17th Century planters house and Mount Nevis Hotel
Reopened recently of the Four Seasons Hotel, Pinneys Beach - closed since it
was damaged by Hurricane Omar in 2008 - after upwards
of $4.4 million on landscaping and lighting. The hotel was refurbished and
replanted during the two year closure. Guestrooms, lobby, restaurants and
cocktail bars have been redecorated and updated. There are new furnishings and
artwork and greater privacy for the balconies. The Four Seasons is home to the
Robert Trent Jones II golf course and is / was in the
1000 Things book.
ALL IN ALL NICE TO VISIT
