Finally We Leave Deltaville and Head South to
Norfolk
![]() ![]() A bright, clear and crisp morning. A last look back at
the Deltaville Marina Offices
The girl looking
good and ready to go, so at a quarter past seven this morning we slipped
backward out of our parking space and wiggled out into the newly dredged
channel, past the crab pots and out into the Chesapeake Bay. What a great
feeling. ![]() Rounding the final bend
![]() ![]() Chippy, certainly. I dressed in the
outfit Joe gave me - marvellous; hat and gloves from Dennis and Miss Becky - cosy. Bear wrapped up well
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Not too long before we saw familiar sights,
chums, working girls and sea birds, including what I thought far away was a chum - up close a
lighthouse - oh well, still rooming in to this business, (our last
journey going in to Deltaville was the last day of
July)
![]() As we
approached Norfolk it was lovely to see an English lady, Cape Osprey of London. This bulk carrier has a gross
tonnage of 81,589 tons, Summer DWT of 161,448 tons, her length 280 meters,
beam 45 meters and a draught of 14.9 meters. She is on the Lloyds Shipping
Register, built in 1995 by Hyundai Heavy Industries and owned by Cortland
Marine.
![]() We met Chief hard at work over our
right shoulder
![]() In
front of us the dockyard and the 'big girls'
![]() How
tiny the yacht looks as we get closer
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Passing the Navy and on to the commercial area
![]() ![]() Steven McCallister
went by and a few minutes later his 'missus' Susan
followed
![]() ![]() Once again I get to oggle the
big sets of Meccano but a surprise for Bear - to the left of the
yellow cranes
![]() ![]() ![]() Trains. Who would have thought we would
see that and the cranes look like they are stepping up, quite something and very
different
![]() A girl in bandages with her own patrol to guard
her........
![]() .
................ but funniest was the "No
Wake" notice to keep the toilets level
Soon
enough forty two miles later, it was four o'clock, we were at anchor and the
backgammon was out. The afternoon was warm enough to sit for a while in the
cockpit but as soon as the sun dropped it was as chippy as first thing this
morning. Everything felt just as it should, to feel the wind in our faces -
grand.
ALL IN ALL JUST AS IT SHOULD
BE
MARVELOUS TO GET GOING
AGAIN
