The new week began bright and early. Soon after breakfast Bear was once again giving me the view to which I have become very familiar. Not for long though, the old starter battery was removed, off it went in Baby Beez and soon a new one was swinging through the door. I only approve of this battery as it has a Mabel on the picture. The electrician in the shop roared laughing when he tested the old battery. It read 13.2 volts ok, but when he measured the CCA – Cold Cranking Amps at 22 degrees, instead of 875 it only read 2. Oh and there we are in position once more.

I was settled to learning about some of the islands of Indonesia. All of a sudden we heard the water nearby swooshing followed by some clanging. Looking out of the window the ‘buoy checker’ Lifter was working next door. Bear was making some adjustments when the noises got closer, he soon went out to investigate.

Work in progress then, Oh well, I had to go for a nozz as well. Lifter was settling next to Beez.

The boys introduced themselves as Chris and Matt. Some nifty work at the controls by Chris, some clunking noises as the stabilisers set on the ground, Matt put his floor board down and we watched as our buoy chain came into view.

Up came our two ton mooring buoy block and Chris set to the task of carefully measuring the attaching hook.

Next, the chain was carefully checked.

A shackle and the swivel link between the chain and the tethering rope were replaced.

All done, it was time to fill in the paperwork. We would need a new block was the verdict.

The boys just had one job left, to lower our block.

Beez bade a fond ‘farewell’ to her new friend and working girl – Lifter of Opua.

After that unique and interesting interlude we both returned to our chores in hand. After lunch and a backgammon loss – growl and gnash teeth, I was given the honour of turning the key. Beez leapt into life and what a sweet sound her engine was to our ears. Well done Bear, another job ticked off the lengthy list.
