Bird Watching in Larry and
Marlo's Garden
   Any time
we were not out exploring or eating indoors the six of us sat at the table on
the patio (drink in hand as you would expect of us lot) and watched the garden
visitors. Larry and Marlo were in charge of the list and over the three days we
saw Mousebird (white backed), juvenile Red Bishop, Cape Bulbul (yellow vented),
Cape Shrike, Cape White Eye (Marlo’s favourite), Lesser Collared Sunbird, Cape
Sparrow, House Sparrow, Cape Weaver, Masked Weaver, Cape Robin (chat), pigeons,
doves and LBJ’s (little brown jobs). Larry has constructed what they call ‘The Boxing Ring’, a feeding platform with sticks in each
corner and ‘ropes’ made from fishing line, this ingenious piece of kit allows
the little chaps to eat unmolested by the bigger birds who simply don’t fit in
the ring. We saw very few scraps or fights usually at the drink bottle and
thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience that we all miss so much at sea. Here
