We had a couple of snorkels swimming toward shore from the back of Beez whilst we waited for the glue repairs on Baby Beez to dry, then we began to explore. Rain happens at some point every day, mostly at night but also for two solid days. A bad squall one night had winds to twenty five knots, thankfully it settled to hard rain after a couple of hours. We popped over to the only other yacht here, went over to supper a couple of nights later and yesterday they came to lunch. Today the Patrol Vessel arrived as our neighbours – Harry and Maril on Adiejewah left for Mayotte. Passports stamped and a great time chatting to Yolanda along with coxwain Donald, we hope to see them again soon, we went over to what is now known as Bear’s Island. Pepe’s Island was explored last week.
We now have our own guardian, a brown footed booby who sits proudly at the top of the mast. We watch daily aerobatic displays from a pair of fairy terns, every couple of days a frigate bird flies over, a lemon shark has checked us out a couple of times and a little turtle paddles by regularly. Out one afternoon on Baby Beez we enjoyed a manta ray, wing tips visible, simply having fun just below the surface. Not sure if we will have any new neighbours before we leave, but for now we are now on our own in this very special atoll.
The pictures were taken during a snorkel over a wreck nearby, a warning not to take hard coral reefs lightly, so pleased we have a great anchor and an anchor alarm on Bear’s IPad.
All is well and proper blogs when we get internet in Madagascar.
