We leave Marion’s Lookout to the constant stream of walkers.

Not before I appease this chap. I wasn’t quick enough with my lunchbox and I swear this chap hopped closer, then closer, and hooded his eyes in exasperation..... Happy with a little snack, I exit stage right.

We look back and neither of us is heartily convinced it’s any easier coming down.

Wombat Pool with Lake Lilla further to the right and Dove Lake beyond.

Zoomed in, we can see the bench for a rest stop, a bit to go yet for that though.

It begins to tip down, the fine stuff that get you wet, out came the anoraks and ten minutes later all over.

We stop at the next lookout and sit for a while.

Hurrah, just forty five minutes, which in our case will be a couple of hours. To go at the suggested speed, I would need significant sponsorship for a worthy charity – especially as the nice man has clearly run out of wooden retainers to ease the way down the steepish shaly bits. As for twenty five minutes to Marion’s Lookout, perhaps if we wore red underpants on the outside of our trousers.........

Wombat Pool makes for a lovely sit down. We can see heads on the lookout [mid left] that we had left......just call it a while ago.......

Zoom in to prove it to ourselves.

After a particularly steep shaly bit, our man has been out with his wood and we have nice steps to go down.

If the last bit was supposed to take twenty five minutes...........we feel the sign are to ease us through the painful bits. Every time I think we are done with any more up bits.......... then some woodland to make a change......and some more down bits.

A nice view between the trees. I’m pleased I hadn’t seen the contours lines on this sign before we set off. Nearly at lake level. Thank you.

Would you like to walk down to see the Boat Shed on Dove Lake. NO. The mere word down implies up has to be done in reverse and as we’ll be touching said shed on the morrow when we cir-cum-ped the lake, I feel no great need to want to push my trusty flip-flops any further today. Secretly, I am relieved to hear this......... What was that. Nothing dear.

A sign along the home straight told us what we had achieved. We began at Ronny Creek, followed the Overland Track to Crater Falls, on to Crater Lake and straight up.......to Marion’s Lookout. Our return took us back toward Crater Lake until we turned right toward Wombat Pool, down to the lookout above Lake Lilla and along the red track to Dove Lake. There we checked out of the record book, filled in by everyone who does a walk no matter how arduous or not and waited for the bus. We thought we might attempt a very short walk from the Interpretation Centre. It better be really short and very flat........Yes dear.

On our final ‘slope’ down we saw in the distance a chap, could that be Russ out and about during the day........

Wombats are definitely teddy bears with short legs. Even in the wild they don’t mind having their back scratched, but you risk quite a bit if you touch their snout or front end. We were happy to watch this chap scruff about, it wasn’t Russ, who was still tucked up with Beds waiting for us at camp.

Climbing out of the small pool this chap was soon difficult to pick out from the button grass.

Our last stop of this walk was at a sign that told us to put our cameras at the top and share the picture with the world. Will here it is, and, only shared with our very special BARB’s. Our Barmy Army of Readers of the Blog. Just one more before we get on the bus, looking back at Cradle Mountain across Dove Lake, just as small raincloud touches the top right.
