Maglev Taster Trip to the
Airport
We left the theatre after watching
our ‘finale to China’ hoping to ride the world’s
fastest train – yes it is – but we would board the last train of the day, the
21:40 at a slow 186 mph, not the fastest at 267.18
mph. So our ‘fastest trip’ doesn’t disappoint as in my view the Bullet Train in
Japan is a very sexy beast not to be bested.
We bought our five pound eighty eight
ticket (that a really nasty sod wouldn’t let us keep
as a memento) and after airport-like security headed up the escalator to the platform.
The Maglev
I didn’t feel the need to say “Ooooo”. Like the Bullet Train – No.
Ten minutes before 21:40 the train came, we had a quick peek in first class and were soon settled in
economy.
With less than twenty seconds to go I
focussed the camera to the far end of the carriage on the speed. To do something a bit different and rather than type
out the information I researched for this blog, I will do a row of times and
speed as we set off to the second of 21:40 and a line of info (lifted from the
website – typos and all). This experimental line loses money, it cost US $ 1.2
billion to build, the lines balance of payments has been in huge deficit since
it’s opening and although not our fastest ride, we wouldn’t have missed trying
out the Maglev train.
We left the train and had a look at
her rear end, insects left their final mark.............
ALL IN ALL BUMPIER THAN I
