A Fun Game of Rounders I woke at half six this morning and couldn’t help but
smile, Faye and William soundo in the bunks
on Eva, Adam and Jenny soundo on their monster
mattress out in Isabel and evidence of a good ‘do’ last night.
After a stirring breakfast of bacon
butties and chocolate pains for the small people it was time to head to the big
field for a family game of rounders. Adam took charge
of getting us to assemble into two teams and off we went..........
Faye
concentrated hard and Edward completely obliviously caught the ball between his ankles, clearly
my team needs to rev up slowly to great things. Grandpa was a very enthusiastic
back stop. I am reliably informed that things will
improve........
Andrew took
the pose of a professional and...........he certainly has
potential.
Surely I can depend on Miffy to give the ball a thunderous
crack....errrrrrrrr..........no.
The other team went in to bat. William keen eye to the ball, growled like a viking
and......
I thought Miff was on my team??? He gets in a solid
crack, makes a good
run and line dancing ???
A ‘one-handed
classic’ – no, just watch the ball go plop.
There were a few contacts between bat
and ball but that brought about panic running between
the posts. Jen actually overtook Faye in a bid to beat Rachel from stumping them out, she in turn was laughing so
much she nearly didn’t.
Then it was total
chaos, no one could remember who was on who’s team, there was anarchy in the ranks and even which way
to run???
Grandpa in to
bat. Throughout it all Adam maintained discipline – that will be a no
then.
Edward
taking the position of Sidney Barnes – pity the ball plopped just behind
him. Miff bowls to Adam and he gets a massive ball
away.
Grandpa declared
a draw and that it was time for tea and doughnuts. The rest of the sunny
afternoon passed in a very relaxed fashion. We all sat outside Isabel the Awning
and the little ones did too, simply enjoying each others company. “Nothing to do
with nightdress dancing at one this morning then” Jen said. Well everyone agreed
it was time for bed but once we were appropriately attired someone put a good
song on and off we went again on second wind. There was a bit of that
too.........
Off to the Crooked Inn for supper.
Jenny and
Faye pose between chatting and scampering about. The young ones
played happily until our good, solid pub grub
arrived.
Edward
about to get stuck into a fairy cake (the table next to us had far too
many for their party and very kindly handed us a tray). Don’t let that cute face
and swimming pool sized eyes fool you. He is edible though and such a character.
He likes to call us both Grandpa Bear, works for us.
ALL IN ALL DISCIPLINED
CHAOS
EVERYONE JOINED IN FOR A GOOD
