Our Final Day in Richards
Bay
Yesterday, whilst we were checking
out with Customs, Claire (Storm Petrel) suggested we take a trip to
Enseleni Nature Park just eleven miles away. I
floated ten but Kimi and Claire decided on eight o’clock. We co-opted Bear in to
drive the hire car as only he and Trevor are on the insurance. Plan settled, we
carried on with checking out. Us oldies were up, ready and knocking for Kimi.
Hangover would be premature as an observation. We bimbled over to Storm Petrel
where Joe called down to Claire. She woke at six and began to read, “just closed
my eye for a second”. Finally, we were off.
Through the gate we were welcomed by
a cheerful man who told us that today was an open day. Parked, we signed up for
a game drive and a boat ride. Minutes later we were in the back of a pickup
(Claire entertaining us with a funny story) being
driven toward the far end of the park.
Kimi not really deserving her upright
status.......
At the outer fence we headed
downhill, across lush grass and spotted zebra. How
well they blend into the landscape, move along the grass line to the left of the
stand of bushes.
Happy youngsters.
Along on the right was a sheltered pond, all the cream dots in the reeds were busy
weaver bird nests.
Water lilies were an unexpected joy.
Enseleni Nature
Park covers 725 acres, (considered a small area) but a delight that it is so close to town.
This little
chap cantered up clearly wanting to pose.
Back from our drive we ordered
delicious burgers from the enthusiastic helpers – loved the braai wheelbarrow.
I spotted this gorgeous little girl. We chatted for an hour while we
waited for our boat ride, one of the lady rangers kept apologising but
eventually we had to make the call that final boat jobs were calling.
After a busy afternoon Allen (Nauti Nauti) suggested we have our final Richards
Bay supper where we all began in Dros. Patricia ordered an
event. Joe had a massive amount of pork, enough to take half home in a
doggy bag, Allen, Claire and Bear had steak, I had a portion of mushrooms with
warm chicken salad. Larry (Althea) also had steak but asked for his
meal on a separate tab.
After much debate Patricia and Claire shared a yummy looking cake with trimmings. Fred (Serafina) and Warren
(Eliana) popped in for a beer. Including wine, my V+C, beers and coffee
the bill came to seventy-nine pounds for the six of us. Early to bed as the
alarm was set for a quarter to four.
ALL IN ALL RICHARDS BAY HAS
BEEN FUN
REALLY GREAT PLACE TO STOP
