Once all the ropes and tethers were in place it was time to nip next-door-but-two to see Patricia and Allen (Nauti Nauti) with a docking beverage. Getting off Beez should be simple with the staircase ??? Errr.... not a bit. The whole walkway swings, each pontoon dances and our ropes have to be slack enough to move with both forces. The trick is to hop from our gate to the second step this side and use Beez to steady for the climb and over the other side.......Easy, errrrr..... no – a case of timing and balance – not to be done in high heels or under any influence or things could easily end badly........

The dock is littered with One Careful Owners and as Port Elizabeth is renowned for being ‘a bit blowy’ there is much evidence of tethers, extra ropes and frayed failures. A local said “there is no real problem here unless it blows to 60 knots”. OH ER. Bad enough keeping balance in gusts of 20 knots.

A particular favourite with quite a mussel farm along the waterline.

More detritus from past wear and tear.

The Winner. The medal goes to our next-door-but-one for the ingenious use of paint applied to his bimini cover, the owner is well suited to his steed as well.

At six we all bimbled toward the eatery. A meandering path between bowsprits, ropes, uneven passage joints and the natural swinging about. The Yacht Club here does not welcome visitors but next door does, and for a few drinks or a meal we can use the showers (– that done) we settled to post-journey, onward journey and ever-present weather conversations.

A jolly chap served us and I have to say I enjoyed the best salad I have ever eaten out. Chicken, feta cheese, avocado on cucumber, lettuce and tomato with a light chili mayo. Bear didn’t fancy steak so he settled for chicken schnitzel with mushroom sauce, sadly no baked potato but he was brave, he and Allen had shared baked camembert as a starter so no one went hungry.

At seven the Sea Rescue boys got a shout (query a drowning – common along this coast with the amount of rip currents).

It took over six minutes for the two boys on trailer duty to get the craft launched away, run over the bridge, hop aboard and roar away. By the time they left my nerves were full of jangle as to the method of release, but, that is not to say these volunteers do a fantastic job, because they do.

Tired bunnies, we set off. As we passed the Yacht Club we saw this sign. Time to renegotiate the assault course back to our various girls and an early night.......

ALL IN ALL SETTLED IN INTERESTING SURROUNDINGS
QUITE A LOT OF BUMPING ABOUT THE PLACE
