A very different view of the captain, as seen from bed this morning.

An amusing thing happened last night. We keep a bucket just outside in the cockpit for ‘the just in case pennies’ that may be spent in the dark hours. I got up at three, leaned over the temporary ladder and as I went for the bucket, it touched my sander. In the dead of night it was a shock when this beast (the shape of an iron) launched itself off into the night. Somehow I managed to find the plug. This morning I could see just how far it had raced, taking out the mossie spray with it. Each evening we burn a mossie coil, but, the little biting flies don’t give a hoot. They land and as opposed to stinging, they cut the middle step and literally take a mouth-sized chunk, ITCH, for days and days. The one time I don’t get singled out – Bear has as many bites as me, fortunately just one or two a day.

The lounge looked really nice for half a day, clearly a step backwards........ The temporary ladder over a temporary floorboard makes for an interesting but slow escape. The stairs are beginning to look lovely, don’t look anywhere else I keep saying to myself.

The bottle in the first picture above is in fact balsamic vinegar, just so I know where it is, for a starter I’m doing – when I can get to the cooker of course. My new sock and knicker hanger has come in handy as a dryer for the window shutters to dry after a coat of white paint, thirteen in all ended up on it.

No sooner than the third coat of varnish was hardening in the kitchen, than Bear removed the diesel tank for the heater and cut a whole............in my work........... It’s for the water maker controls, it’ll give you a bit more space in the cupboard below the sink. Growling loudly.......

Panel in place, can’t say it looks pretty. The peace offering of flowers was one thing, I could have put them in a Coke bottle with a sawn off top........but the vase (the most practical gift for a sailor I have ever seen, gopping as well) ....... I filled it – clearly too far and it leaked out of the ribbon hole all over the place. The vodka was very welcome though, road tested of course........

Bear successfully got the deceased bow thruster out, leaving a space, after Rodney checked it, he declared it for burial. A new one – half price is now en route from Auckland. Bear’s shed is mid sort and tidy. Mmmmmm, no nagging. Would I, with the state of the rest of Beez, it’s kind of in keeping......

Outside, the fridge cooling system worked well, but due to a leak the skipper actually sikaflexed (glued) it to Beez...........don’t ask I didn’t, messy, necessary and un-do-able, if you say so. At least the bucket carries on with its duty.........

ALL IN ALL IT MUST END SOON – CAN  IT ????
