We Have a Seriously Unhappy
Bow Thruster
NOT a happy
picture.
Every so often we check the bow
thruster to make sure all is well. The last time I used it was very briefly as
we left Shelter Bay Marina in February. Coming in to anchor yesterday I did a
quick check and nothing. Reported to captain, he put it on his list. Later in
the day I took everything out of the jumper / towel cupboard to have a spring
clean and tidy, I piled it all the contents on the floor next to the tool shed.
When nearly everything was checked, folded and replaced, the bottom couple of
sweatshirts had wet arms. Knickers. Only one reason the carpet can possibly be
damp in front of the tool shed........... Last time this happened was after the
heavy seas we encountered crossing the Atlantic and cost a significant amount of
money to get a new unit sent to Trinidad. We both heartily agree that this piece
of equipment comes in useful sometimes and should be fixed - again. The anchor
locker is looking like the culprit of the water ingress.........again..... but
watch this space.............
The Bow
Thruster.
The battery – terminals completely
dissolved.
Bear went into
action and put the tool shed ‘stuff’ in the shower, unscrewed the floor and a
flooded mess came into view. Much swearing and gnashing of teeth.
Stirrup
pump went into action. Plenty of water thrown in to rinse out the salt.
Rags from
the tee shirt cupboard sort out came in handy. After further inspection, Bear
thinks the bow thruster itself is OK, just the battery and wiring that is dead.
Fingers crossed.
The result is now
drying. Time for a stiff libation and a fight over
the games boards.
