Day Twelve to St Helena

At ten I got up to quite heavy rain, a dull and very overcast sky. What is Bear having now his bananas have run out I hear you all asking. Don’t worry the spoiled boy is having pawpaw (one small one left after today), some finely chopped galia melon and some mandarin segments (tinned). Spoilt indeed.

To go with todays ‘Happy Pictures’ of Bear sleeping soundly during his 10:00 rest period, he actually took one of me (at about 15:30 post wins growling quite hard). As predicted you can only see my beak above Beds head (if you don’t know who Beds is by now, shame on you).

I won five three at backgammon. Lunch was chicken sandwiches (packet finished now) with a big side salad for himself and ham salad for me (one day of ham left). Then a crushing loss for Bear at Mex Train. A bit eventful as the swell picked up at bit, ending with the bone yard (extra pieces that you draw from) having to go in a box to stop them leaving the table stage left, right, sideways..... Our men mostly stayed in place as we play on my shower towel. The ‘magic’ fibres mean they don’t fidget too much but it makes mixing them a bit more of a chore.

During the day was sunny until the evening when sunset was more lights on, lights off, just like the day before. I do miss a good sunset but as if to compensate the moon was a very bright beacon about three quarters of his full size, so the night was more a deeply dull grey never going truly dark black. Engine went on at 22:00 to charge, well the wind was so light we motored. I rolled in genoa at 04:30 when the wind dropped to two knots not that it had been doing much.

At six this morning we had covered 118 nmiles.
Total completed 1408 nautical miles.

ALL IN ALL VERY MIXED WEATHER BUT LOOK, WE ARE WEST - YEHAA
GOOD TO BE DAY SAILING AGAIN.........
