Jim put out treats for the locals and we watched the constant stream of hungry visitors. Katie Kookaburra didn’t flinch as she was sitting on the bird table when Jim replenished stocks, just a flutter to say it was her turn and she wasn’t moving. The butcherbirds were the most comical of all, they queued neatly on the tree nearest the house and waited patiently for their turn (must have a pre-arranged pecking order), at no time was there more than one bird feeding. At the end we have added some birds we saw whilst out and about with Pam and Jim. The first had to be a pair of Brahminy settled for bedtime.

Butcherbirds – new to us, are insect eaters for the most part, but will also feed on small lizards and other vertebrates. They get their name from their habit of impaling captured prey on a thorn, tree fork, or crevice. This "larder" is used to support the victim while it is being eaten, to store prey for later consumption, or to attract mates. Love the next picture of one looking like he’s ‘jumping for joy’.
