Day with Rod and Mary
![]() ![]() ![]() Rod picked us up and took us to his,
Mary and Kate’s lovely house at Sunset Beach. We haven’t seen Rod and Mary since
Fiji, such a warm welcome we had. Glorious views from the roof terrace over
the golf course to Table Mountain.
![]() As we were enjoying a cup of tea Kate
saw a tiny scrap that had fallen into their pool. He
was very flaccid, cold, wet and somewhat fed up.
![]() I scooped him
up and felt a very shallow, slow heartbeat.
![]() ![]() Once his heartbeat was stronger I
began to change strips of kitchen paper to dry him
off.
![]() Once he began to call for his parents
we set him in the empty bird bath and waited
hopefully. It took about ten minutes for his mum to get ever closer and
eventually mum and dad began to feed him. Very pleased his chirps got louder and
he began to look like he would make it.
![]() Rod got to
work at the braai.
![]() A huge piece of beef and baked potatoes smelt gorgeous.
![]() We checked on the little chap who was
now fluffed up and preened. Then it was indoors to
enjoy steak, chicken, salad and a few glasses of wine. So wonderful to catch up
with retired sailors on how to enjoy life after ocean crossings who understand
how it all feels. Rod did not settle as well as Mary and eventually Mary and
Kate demanded Rod by a project boat, a real beauty now bobbing at Saldanha Bay
called Horizons. They plan to spend a week on her tiddyvating and
offered us their car as they will take their camping beast (all set up with roof
tent). How incredibly kind, amazingly kind in fact. We can now plan a road trip
to see Larry and Marlo (ex of Beatrice not seen since we were in
Guatemala). Over lunch we gained a huge amount of information, tips and advice
for how to best decorate and maintain Sleeping Indian in Antigua with clients in
mind.
![]() We toured the house, met a nervous
but rather cute ball of fluff as I took pictures of
blinds, curtains, colours, shading and so much more. Once in the bar (a real
downstairs bar) Rod handed us a box that contained three red and three white
wines – Bees Knees – what a super gift.
![]() Later we went for a bimble along Sunset Beach, what a backdrop.
![]() ![]() So windy, but we could make out a chum
and a few dog-walkers.
![]() The black blobs a little way out
belong to a wreck, a sober reminder that this coast
can be so unfriendly.
![]() ![]() We could just make out a tiny plane before it rose
higher.
![]() An ideal opportunity to get Rod and Bear to pose.
![]() We turned to see we had the beach to ourselves.
![]() A few chums on the
horizon.
![]() ![]() Heading back toward the beautifully
kept golf course. No matter how many times you look
at Table Mountain the clouds always look slightly
different.
![]() ![]() The grounds
and gardens on the estate are certainly kept immaculately.
![]() Sadly, the flash refused to go off so
my picture of Kate, Rod, Mary and Bear is poor – a
perfect excuse to see these wonderful people again....
ALL IN ALL A FABULOUS
