Beez Neez Netted by the Local Fishermen

Wednesday the 4th of September. At five this morning it sounded like a small army was on the move, chatter, laughter and activity. I stuck my head out at six to see a very, very long line of fishing net not too far from Beez.

Chaps began to bring in the net.

The far end of the net was in a zig-zag at quite a distance.

Bit of discussion.

Chaps with sails join the party. Lots of small nets are cast.

The net begins to drift closer. No one seems bothered.

Suddenly I could lean out and touch the net. Lots of fish.

Everyone got so busy with small nets that no one noticed the zag of the zig zag was suddenly wrapped around the nose of Beez. Eventually one of the chaps saw and all hell broke loose. Paddling like fury they swarmed her beak, lots of shouting and banging into the girl (silent growling) and unbeknown to us (cannot see for the yellow cover) one chap unclipped the anchor chain snubber. Later, fortunately the clonking catamaran left and we moved to be further away from the fishing ground, closer to the other yachts and still nestled with two metres below. All well.

An hour later we were pleased to see the final buoy of the big net safely being mastered.

Late morning Bear picked up Irma and Kevin and dropped them at the jetty for their trip back to South Africa. Bear saw Robin of FOB and we were invited over tonight as Jane and Craig have also gone back to South Africa. Jane to surprise their daughter who is unaware of their visit, and also to delight her brother for his 60th. How wonderful. Something a bit new for me. I have always used PowerPoint to import a pictures and add an arrow etc. well, my Snipping Tool has just updated to Snip and Sketch. After a bit of playing with a ruler, highlighter and coloured pencils, I used the pen to draw a dotted line, arrowhead and circle to show where we re-anchored after clonky had left. Quite impressed.

After lunch we saw this heavily laden girl had to be poled along the mud bank.

We had a brilliant evening on FOB. After several sherbets we abandoned the idea of going ashore for supper and carried on with snacks. Rob produced a pair of Elvis glasses, Bear undid his shirt and I managed the first picture. His terrible impression had me giggling, hence the dodgy focus in the second shot.......

Thursday the 5th of September. The alternator saga continues. I’ll let Bear take up the continuing story. I drilled out the broken bolt and extracted the other. Then had to rethread the drilled out fitting and used our remaining spare bolts to refit the big alternator. Kevin kindly offered to try to obtain high-tensile strength bolts in South Africa as ours are clearly not (the two we had made in Gan)

Very pleased to report that this afternoon the long net was further away and very controlled by a swimmer.

ALL IN ALL BEEZ WAS VERY RUFFLED BY HER EXPERIENCE
