Kathmandu Cable Car
Ride
![]() Our taxi dropped us just before nine
at the cable car Base Station
![]() The sign
told us we were at 5,148 feet in old money.........
![]() ![]() Our tickets told us we could get discount on Turkish Airlines
???? we can’t find out too much in the way of information other than the cable
car was opened by the Prime Minister on the 15th December 2016 as seen on the
memorial plaque.
![]() The
security guard saw the queue growing behind us and
set out a zig-zag using the nylon ‘airport type’ system with poles. Hysterical
watching the process.
![]() ![]() Getting
closer. Bear liked the delivery
car.
![]() I
loved these two old friends waiting their
turn
![]() ![]() ![]() Settled in our car, we saw the Doppelmayr credit above the
door. Shooting out of the base station we soon left it behind.
![]() ![]() Looking up and down.
![]() ![]() Looking right and to the
top.
![]() ![]() Our
shadow and a guard hut half way up, long hike
to get to work......
![]() At the
top we made out little due to the haze.
![]() ![]() On a clear day we should have
seen the Annapurna range to the left and the Himalayas to the right.
![]() ![]() Bear
stands by the sign that tells us we have come up 3,120 feet. Lots of huts and toilets.
![]() One of the huts sold ice cream,
loved the advert.
![]() As we began our walk up the
hill to find the temple and viewpoint, we looked down to see a building site. When complete this will be a one hundred
room eco-friendly boutique, there will be an amusement park, zip flyer and
paragliding, such a pity to see site rubbish spilling down the hillside.
![]() ![]() Steeply up
another hundred and one feet to the
temple.
![]() ![]() ![]() Time for a cup of tea. Bear ambled off and returned with two
frothy-like-cappuccinos that smelt like hot chocolate and tasted so sweet with
not the remotest taste of tea. A ladybird tried mine
and scampered off quick sharp. Quite amusing to see BBQ, chips and hot dogs on
the menu.
![]() ![]() ![]() We bimbled back to the upper station and were lucky enough to have a car our to ourselves.
![]() This would have been a spectacular view of the valley, pity about the
haze.
![]() ![]() The wind
sock was now doing a mad dance. From the window on the right
we could more clearly see the scar on the hillside
care of the building site.
![]() On the left, we
could just make out the tiny image of a JCB, working close
to the edge. What a walk to and from work....
![]() ![]() ![]() Half way down, the
security man was busy on his
mobile.
![]() Kathmandu
Valley.
![]() Back to the Base Station.
![]() ![]() Coffee and
gift shops
![]() ![]() At the bottom we
passed the spare parking bay and looked out of the window.
![]() ![]() A couple of
happy colours as we waited for our driver and off we went to Monkey
Temple.
ALL IN ALL QUITE SOMETHING
SPECTACULAR VIEWS, PITY ABOUT THE
HAZE |
