Collingwood To
Richmond
![]() ![]() Mabel perfectly settled with her view,
sadly time to leave.
![]() ![]() ![]() We made our way to Cape Farewell and
beyond, parked and I found a new friend. Piece of
bread and he allowed me a good look at his hair do.
![]() .
We had a wonderful time visiting Wharariki Beach.
![]() ![]() ![]() On the journey back to Collingwood we
saw the grave of Mary Emma who died in her forty
fifth year, on the 24th of January 1877, wife of J.E. Fletcher and their two
infant children Deborah Hill Fletcher – died 1870 and Leonard William Fletcher –
died 1874. Then a drill bit from a well that Paddy
had pointed out during our Farewell Spit tour. Then a horse
and rider out for a spin, just goes to show we really don’t know what to
expect next.
![]() ![]() ![]() A lovely
sunny day, blue views and our last look at
Collingwood.
![]() Inland to
pastureland.
![]() ![]() ![]() We stopped to take this picture
looking toward Mount Takaka, we may even get our first views from the road as
the last time was thick fog. All of a sudden a collection of seagulls came into view, the first one shouted “UP” and as
one they all shot up and over the telegraph wire.
They all came down in a cow field to scruff around with the herd.
![]() ![]() We could actually see the mountain road - visible under the fir tree line as we
made our way across the flat farmland. A very impressive overhanging rock caught our attention.
![]() We got our view
today, but the sun almost caused a problem with flare.
![]() ![]() Ahead and behind.
![]() ![]() On one of the sharpest hair pin bends
poor Mabel got a puncture,
well the top of the tyre sheered and showed the wire mesh. She held the road
well and the first we knew about it was the mudguard scraping the floor and then
the light came on the dash that looked like a car wiggling on a road – the ESP,
electronic stability program light if you please. Soon sorted we were on our
way. Team work.
![]() ![]() Off the mountain road and on the flat
we saw trees in the lovely afternoon
sunlight.
![]() Across the
estuary nearing Richmond.
![]() Some say the best
time of the day – just before
sunset.
![]() It was only after downloading this
picture that I saw the words marked out in stone ‘Marcia u
wt to be my girlfriend’.
ALL IN ALL LOVELY TO SEE THE
MOUNTAIN ROAD
BEAUTIFUL
