Ha'atafu Surf or
Not
We had driven to the top left corner
of the island to find where Abel Tasman had come ashore and had passed through
the village where the bats live, so successes were us. Our freebie tour book had
said that Ha’atafu (just down on the left of the pointy bit of Tongatapu) there
was competition surf and showed a picture of a man in a tunnel of water. It had
been pouring with rain, very overcast and there was little wind, so our
expectations were low. This was all we
got.
Bear had gone down to a rock pool to wash his sticky
fingers.................................
Bear had waded his way through a
foil pouch full of hot chicken curry on a bed of stringy tarot. I had picked at
mine and handed the rest over, which he of course slathered his way through. Our
food had come from a roadside box with blaring music and a lady who had the
reddest fingernails ever seen. The unappealing
display. What was she doing with a great big pile of
empty foil boxes and tubes...................................I thought it was really tasty, yes, just up your mucky
food street...........Anyway, while he was washing his mitts, I had chance to
stare out to sea.
Out on the
horizon was a different story, we could see massive waves crashing on the
reef. Would love to have gone out for a closer look.
We enjoyed what was
here.
