Some of the Creatures We Saw at
Tikal
The picture of this little chap – an agouti foraging for breakfast, was
clearly not worth it. I jumped up as soon as it was light, stepped out, aimed,
shoot – Oooooooooooooooo (bad words), the biggest horsefly I have ever seen was
just taking aim on my left leg and just as I helped him break his own speed
record with a swift flick - a beetle looking thing was taking a chunk out of my
right leg, (more bad words).
In, camera on table, back to bed.
End of session.
After breakfast we wandered around the
grounds. Our new friends were out. The chap at the top was clearly Team Leader
“Do you want me this way, or that” ???
I caught sight of the end of an interesting looking tail – Bear fell about laughing after I stalked it for ten minutes, only to find, a squirrel
We bimbled around Tikal hoping to see an ocellated turkey, we raced to the bar for a beer in a particularly heavy shower and low and behold there was a herd of them in the car park on our way back to the hotel.
Nest building time, watching us and “no I won’t turn round”
A very happy little chap scruffing for insects
These big boys get everywhere
These were everywhere too in all shapes and sizes, and could they ‘sing’ at night
The winners for most noise at night were the black howler monkeys
Spider monkeys dangled whenever we looked up.
A new one on us was this coatimundi – later we watched one enjoying a snail
Random creature ???
Our favourite new friend
ALL IN ALL A REAL MIXTURE LIKE BEING IN OUR OWN ZOO
