Our taxi took us through crazy traffic from the Cable Car and dropped us in the car park next to the temple with a rather pretty house in the background. Bear paid our one pound thirty entry.

Swayambhu Mahachaitya, a World Heritage Site but known locally as Monkey Temple was shadowed with masses of bunting.

Up some steps under loads more prayer-flag bunting.

Our first ‘sentry box’ shrine, a bit sad and lots of rubbish.

AT the top of these steps is Whochen Thokjay Choyaling Monastery – established in 1915. On the way back down we saw some great electrickery.

Question. Did we want to climb up to the main part of the stupa. A unanimous NO.

IMG_0242

A very sad sight, a chap showing the scourge of plastic.

As we drove away we could see the main stupa.

                    GREAT BUNTING BUT OTHERWISE FAMILIAR
