Nothing prepared us for the sad sight of Plymouth - the once thriving city and capital of Montserrat. Now buried in up to forty feet of mud, sand and ash - much of it carried down from the Soufriere Mountain in the heavy rains since the dome collapsed. Amazingly there were no fatalities, everyone managing to evacuate.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
The oldest building had stood proudly since the mid 1600's - just the roof showing on the once three storey building 
 
 
 
 
The cruise ship dock below joins to this picture, the pier walkway went back to the 'welcome' building. The shore line (just visible as a line of stones) has moved out several hundred feet
