En Route to Brewer Bay

We jumped up on the morning of the 23rd of January and left Honeymoon Bay at 08:30 for the ten mile journey to Brewer Bay to meet up with Ann and Alan of Freya of Clyde (Ann organised our trip to Venezuela to see the Angel Falls and is currently organising our trip to Peru in September - huge thanks Ann, you're a STAR).

There was an immediate impression of far more wealth looking toward St Thomas compared to St John

Some stunning cliff top homes

We passed a "hurricane hole" just to the north of Charlotte Amalie, access is via a concealed entry behind some cliffs. This boat is tucked in quite well protected from the swell we were in.

Our first view of the capital city - Charlotte Amalie

A few miles past we saw the huge bay leading to the airport. Breaking waves over the submerged rocks show that the islands are volcanic in origin

Approaching aircraft and landing on the runway protected by our old friends the "Tetra Blocks"

Behind the "wall" which is the runway of Cyril E. King Airport is the virtually deserted, huge Brewer Bay. There was Freya of Cyde to welcome us with a cuppa. Apart from the small airport, the only buildings here belong to the University - which gave us a good free wi-fi signal

ALL IN ALL WHAT A PERFECT PLACE
