Day 3 – Passing the Date
Line and a NEW RECORD for BEEZ
NEEZ
Well here we are having just
completed day three at sea en route to New Zealand. We did indeed manage a game
of backgammon at around six last evening. The board was duly propped to get some
degree of level, but it has to be said that the skipper caught all the luck
every time he threw, Beez lurched to show a double six, NOT once, but FOUR TIMES
in one end...............I lost five three and once again felt as cross as a
wasp.
The rain continued solidly overnight
and I asked Bear as I went to bed this morning to get pictures of us crossing
the Date Line. He did his best. He managed 179:59.994
West and then 179:59.996 East. Immediately the
machine had a hissy and instead of our correct mileage completed, showed 10,000
nautical miles.
Whilst the captain
had a doze.................
........I put all our previous
waypoints to the left of the Date Line and number one at the correct distance,
so everything now looks more sensible. At half past
one Beez Neez gained a new twenty four hour record having completed 183.0
nautical miles or an average of 7.625 knots per hour, YeeeeeHaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
– despite being reefed down!. Anything
around five and we are delighted, so very well done Beez. Bear has downloaded
new GRIB files and states that we are nearly on the
bottom of the low. At time of typing
the sea has become nearly blue, the rain has finally stopped and the the wind is
holding at around twenty five knots, Beez trotting along at just over seven
knots. At this rate we’ll not get through ‘the to eat pile’ set for the journey.
Oh, deep joy, the sun is trying its best to come out. Methinks chicken salad
instead of roast, do I still get my dollop of mash
??? Mmmm, I’ll think about it.
ALL IN ALL AMAZING WHAT
