I have examined our options for dealing with the strong wind warning that is extant for this evening and tomorrow. The wind is currently from the NW and is forecast to freshen to 18 knots this evening before backing into the SW after the front has passed through
around midnight, with winds gusting to 30 knots. Waiwhapuru Bay is well sheltered from winds from the W’ly quadrants and I have come to the conclusion that we should be fine here. In any event, examining the chart, there do not appear to be any other anchorages
nearby that are much better given the forecast.
I have set the anchor drag alarm on the GPS plotter and put a bit of extra chain out. The anchor is well set, and I am not expecting any problems (touch wood), but I reckon we have a fair bit of room to drag to the east of us in case something does go wrong.
Now, with little else to do but sit and wait, I will aim to have a quiet afternoon and evening catching up on some reading.
