Apart from the usual boat maintenance chores, the past week has been mostly taken up with getting ready for this weekend’s Tollgate Island Race, a 260 mile race south to Batemans Bay and back. As previously mentioned, I will be crewing on board
Sumatra, a beautiful Swan 48. The race starts this afternoon at 1700. We are expecting a front to pass through at around the same time, bringing strong S’ly winds, conditions I would normally avoid if possible; but that’s racing as opposed to cruising.
Sailing on a fully crewed performance boat will make for an interesting experience compared with my usual mode of sailing on board good old
Sylph.
We expect to have finished the race by Sunday afternoon. After that I will focus on continuing back to Adelaide with
Sylph.
All is well.
