E I won't bore you with the now ancient historical details of the second half of our passage to Port Stephens from Ballina, suffice to say that it was pretty much as expected with the trough passing through late Monday afternoon, making for variable winds and a busy night adjusting sails and some periods of motoring in the calm patches. We arrived off the township of Nelson to pick up a vacant public mooring at 0448 and after a quick tidy up I promptly fell into my bunk for some much needed sleep. As mentioned yesterday, Chris and Marrie's boat, Murandina, were secured to an adjacent mooring so once I had arisen from my slumbers, Chris came over for a chat and then later I went over to Murandina for a very tasty meal and a generally convivial evening. Thank you Marrie and Chris. This morning we went for jog together (I managed to not fall too far behind) followed by coffee at a local coffee shop. Now we have left the moorings, which are limited to 24 hours use, and motored over to Winda Woppa on the northern shore of Port Stephens to gain better shelter from the NE'lies. I feel little restless sitting here rather than making use of the favourable wind, but at this stage we have plenty of time in hand to get to Adelaide and it is nice to be able to socialise with some good friends for a while. Looking at the forecast, the wind is all over the place for the next week with no clear period of fair winds to sail the 85 miles to Sydney. At this stage the next reasonable opportunity appears to be overnight on Saturday after a fresh S'ly has passed through Saturday morning and the wind has eased and backed more into the SE. Once we get to Sydney I hope to remain there for about a week to catch up with RANSA friends and then continue to Adelaide as soon as the weather permits. All is well. |
