Departed Port Douglas

E After a relaxing couple of days in Port Douglas, we got under way this morning at 0650 so as to have a good chance of making Cooktown before dark. At this stage with a fresh fair breeze from right astern pushing Sylph along at a steady six to seven knots, we will arrive just before sunset which should give us sufficient time to find somewhere to anchor for the night in this tiny harbour. (I always find it a wonder that Captain Cook managed to work the damaged HM Bark Endeavour into this inlet to careen her after her near fatal grounding on the reef.) Fingers crossed there will not be many other vessels there competing for the limited anchorage area. All is well. |
