Arrived Wollongong
Position: 34 25.17 S 150 54.31 E As expected, we didn’t make it to Kate’s place in time for dinner but it worked out even better. The winds off Jervis Bay were rather fickle for a while and predicting an ETA was a bit of a lottery but, by mid-afternoon, the winds had settled once more into the south-west and Sylph continued making good progress towards the final destination for our voyage, back where we had started from what now seems only a short two months ago. At 2025 we rounded Bass Island, dropped the pole for the last time (for this voyage) and altered course to the north-west. Flagstaff Point Light flashing its signal right ahead guided the way into Wollongong Harbour. At 2100 I started the engine, furled the jib and motored into the harbour where I dropped the mainsail. I then continued into Belmore Basin alongside a fishing boat where I picked up Kate. We then proceeded to Sylph’s mooring where, once things were tidied up, we settled in the warm glow of Sylph’s oil lamp lit saloon to a late night snack, including some of Kate’s home made gluten free cheese cake, a glass of wine, and some bonhomie. All is well. |
