Having motored for over two days without putting a sail up once, today, once clear of Esther Passage and out into the relatively unrestricted waters of the sound, despite the fact that the wind was very light, I stopped the motor, set some sail, and then pretty much drifted for the afternoon. Only now that the sun has set has a light but sailable breeze filled in, which we are running before, wing on wing, making good all of two knots, but at least it makes a very nice change from motoring.

The forecast for Prince William Sound is for east winds this evening, turning north tomorrow morning, but we are actually getting west winds. Still, as long as no gales are in the offing we will take what we get. The forecast for Friday through Sunday remains east winds, though the strength has been reduced from 25 knots to a much more civilised 15 knots. With these forecasts in mind I have decided to sail overnight with the aim of getting to Cordova late tomorrow, before the easterly winds arrive.

All is well.
