Ada signed off from ship's articles yesterday and departed Cooktown to return to Sydney this afternoon, and I am now back on board Sylph with Oli.

As mentioned in yesterday's entry, the question I now need to answer is where next, or more specifically, do we continue north to perhaps complete a circumnavigation of Australia, or do we return back south to get clear of the cyclone belt before the cyclone season starts? I have been weighing up the pros and cons of each option over the last several weeks. My more adventurous spirit wants to keep on going to explore waters that Sylph has not been in before, but my more cautious self tells me not to be foolish and to get clear of the cyclone belt as soon as the weather systems allow.

To address the all too sensible concerns of my prudent seaman-like self, I have been researching what steps I can take to mitigate the risk of cyclones if I do continue north. In particular, I have consulted with my friend, Harald, a fellow circumnavigator and eminently sensible chap who has resided for several years in his boat, Fram, in the Gove/Darwin region, so far without incident.

Watch this space and hopefully I will come to a decision within the next few days.

All is well.
