The winds fell very light late in the afternoon and at 1630 we flashed up the engine and motored for a few hours. At 2015 we again had sufficient wind to set sail. The gentle breeze was from the South. I initially set the code zero, close hauled on the port tack, which allowed us to make good our desired heading of WSW. By 2130 the wind had freshened to force four. I handed the code zero and unrolled the jib. We continued thus close hauled overnight, the breeze between force three and four, the sky clear, a half moon and stars shining brightly, making for a peaceful and comfortable night.

This morning the wind has continued gentle from the SW, pushing us a little north of our desired course, but that was expected. The breeze is forecast to back around into the NE later this evening, a fair wind but very light, so likely a bit more motoring will be in order. Tomorrow the wind will continue backing further around into the SW as a front passes through - a headwind, but by then I am hoping to have made it around Wilsons Promontory and, with a little luck, from there will be able to lay a course direct for Port Phillip Heads.

So, I think there is an even chance that we will make it to Melbourne in time for the Cup, though definitely not in time to place a bet. No doubt a good thing.

All is well.
