We have made excellent progress over the last 24 hours with a fresh following breeze and a boost from the East Australia Current. However, a change is expected early tomorrow morning bringing fresh head winds that are forecast to last for a couple of days, so I am looking to find shelter for this evening. Looking at the chart and the tides I reckon my best bet is the Richmond River. At our current speed our ETA off the river is 1715 at which time the tide will be flooding and approaching high water, ideal for crossing the bar at the river's entrance. Also, there is a webcam that shows the conditions across the bar, a very useful resource, so I will be having a good look at that when we get a bit nearer.

Assuming we are able to safely negotiate the bar we will likely stay at anchor off Ballina until the wind returns to a more favourable direction, either Saturday or Sunday. And if the bar is not safe then we will just have to stay at sea and punch into some headwinds for a day or so.

At midday we advanced ship's clocks one hour to NSW daylight savings time.

All is well.
