Fair and Fresh
Position: 38 45.2 S
147 15.0 E We have made good time since clearing Port Phillip Heads. Heading southeast, the wind freshened to a strong breeze, approaching a near gale at times. We spent most of the night running before it with two reefs in the main and the jib poled to starboard. At 0400 we rounded Wilsons Promontory, gybing with a crash and, a short while later, I dropped the pole so that we could reach in behind the Prom to gain some protection from the westerly swell. Since then it has been reasonably comfortable. The wind has moderated, I have shaken out a reef and the jib is full. All is well. |
