We are still in Port Phillip - for a very good reason. My niece, Issy, turns fifteen this Sunday and will be celebrating her birthday with her dad on Saturday. Of course I feel it is my duty to attend.

As mentioned in my last post, one can only stay alongside the Ferguson St public pier for so long without attracting the attention of the park rangers. Consequently, last Monday I motored to anchor off Princes Pier while a light N'ly blew, then returned to the pier the following day when the wind swung into the south again. I visited Mark for a social evening yesterday and, given that we will need to be alongside again on Saturday due to the weather, I decided it would be a good idea to make myself scarce for a day or so. To this end, this afternoon I departed the pier and went for a short sail across the northern end of the bay to St Kilda. The wind is in the south at the moment and anchoring to the north of the St Kilda breakwater provides good shelter from this wind direction. The wind is forecast to back into the north again overnight and the beach will provide good protection from this direction also.

At this stage, if the forecast remains accurate, I will most likely remain here until Saturday morning and then move back to Williamstown early Saturday in time to make it to the party. I would stay at anchor and row ashore but unfortunately late Saturday a strong wind is forecast from the SW. There are no anchorages anywhere near the city that provide shelter from this direction so my options are to either go to a marina or return to the Ferguson St pier. As the latter is free it is definitely my preferred option.

As for when we are likely to continue on our passage to Adelaide, unfortunately the weather systems next week are predominantly against us. At this stage we still have plenty of time in hand to make it to Adelaide in time for Christmas, so we will just sit tight and try to relax until, hopefully, a better weather pattern develops.

All is well.
