Wollongong Harbour
Position: 34 25.26 S 150 54.45E With the wind vane in order and a favourable wind for today, last night I prepared for my departure by coming alongside the RANSA pontoon and topping up with water. We remained alongside overnight and were underway relatively early, just before dawn, to give us the best chance of making Wollongong Harbour in daylight hours. And while conditions were not as favourable as I had hoped, Sylph having to bash to windward against a short sea for much of the short passage with a reefed main and the jib partly furled, we managed to comfortably make it into the tiny harbour and secure alongside a fishing boat at 3.50 p.m. Strong southerly winds are forecast for the next couple of days so we will remain holed up here until they blow out, then continue south. While here I am also hoping to catch up with an old Navy colleague. All is well.
