Arrived Eden

E The last 24 hours continued with mostly light following winds with patches of calm amid a relentless two to three meter swell from the SE. Again we sailed when we could and motored or drifted when we couldn't, eventually making Twofold Bay just on midday. We are now alongside the Eden wharf where we were greeted by Ada and an acquaintance from Kangaroo Island, John, the one time pelican man (he used to have a pelican feeding show at Kingscote), who happened to be passing through Eden. Once Sylph was secured, Ada and I enjoyed a cup of tea on board with John, catching up with each other stories since we last met. The plan was to stay here the night then depart Eden and continue north tomorrow morning, but when I dropped the mainsail on entering Twofold Bay I noticed that the top car on the mainsail headboard has separated from its track and lost all its ball bearings, no doubt caused by the sails slatting as we rolled to the SE swell in the light winds and calms. The car will need to be fixed before we can get under way again, a job for tomorrow. Hopefully I will be able to effect repairs so that we will be able to continue on our way by tomorrow afternoon, otherwise we will likely be stuck in Eden for another week. For now it is time to clean up, including doing the laundry. All is well. |
