We ended up making excellent time down the coast, picking up about two knots of favourable current and with the wind filling in at a nice steady force four for the remainder of the day, right up until we made our entrance into Sydney Heads at just on midnight. As we entered the Heads, the wind was fading and I decided to proceed to Quarantine Bay just inside North Head to pick up a public mooring so as to facilitate an earlier turning in and to provide for a more scenic backdrop for breakfast on the morrow. This morning dawned clear and calm. At 0935, after a wake-up dip and breakfast, I slipped the mooring and motored back to Rushcutters Bay. I attempted to sail at one point but there was insufficient wind for Sylph to maintain steerage way so I gave up, handed sail and resorted to the motor again. At 1140, we picked up the mooring at Rushcutters Bay, concluding a successful visit to Port Stephens and a very pleasant return sail. All is well. |
