Over the last 24 hours we have made and excellent day's run of 160 miles. It is not often that Sylph manages to sustain such a high average speed. At this rate, if the wind holds, we will be in San Francisco late Friday. No doubt things will get pretty busy, especially with lots of shipping traffic, as we get closer. Sailing under the Golden Gate bridge is something I am looking forward to.

After holding out for five days without being sick, this morning the first mate threw up just outside the litter box, just as things have started to settle a bit as well. Go figure. I think it might be because up until today he has not eaten much, so after a light meal going inside the litter box might have been a bit much. Not to worry. We both lose a bit of weight when we go to sea, which, as long as we keep our fluids up, isn't going to do any harm.

The sky is clear with just the odd high tufts of cirrus cloud, the sun is shining, and the sea is a rich dark cobalt blue speckled with numerous white horses. Sylph's decks are clean and bleached with sun and salt, her white sails curve and strain to the breeze.

All is well.
