Arrived Wollongong
Position: 34 25.26 S 150 54.33 E At 2230 we passed a mile off Bellambi Point, 3 miles to the north of Wollongong, where the breeze headed us as it eased. We hardened in the sheets. Close hauled on the starboard tack with a clear starry night overhead, the light cool breeze blowing down from the Blue Mountains carried us the last few miles to Wollongong Boat Harbou. At 2310 we furled the jib and started the motor to enter the harbour’s narrow but well-lit entrance. A flashing green to starboard, a flashing red to port and bright violet leads lined up ahead guided us safely inside the harbour. I dropped the main and Sylph quietly drifted onto the public mooring which I was very pleased to find vacant. We picked it up at 2325 and, after a quick tidy up, turned in for the remainder of the night. All is well. |
