Wet and Windy
Alongside Royal Brighton Yacht Club
Marina The last few days have been wet and windy and I have been glad to be in a snug berth at the Royal Brighton Yacht Club, although yesterday it was a bit of hazard getting ashore along the walkway between the marina breakwater and the club house. Waves were breaking over the rocks of the breakwater and washing across the footpath such that one had to time one's exit from the marina gateway across the western end of the walkway, making a mad dash between the breaking waves. My immediate plan from here is to head over to Phillip Island in Westernport on Tuesday or Wednesday to meet up with my brother, Mark, and his family. Winds are easing by then though I expect a significant sea and swell will still be running outside the Heads. My thinking at the moment is to make my way down to the Southern end of Port Phillip on Tuesday afternoon and then to head across to Westernport on Wednesday morning, transiting the Rip at 0600 slack water and getting to anchor off Cowes sometime in the afternoon. In the meantime we hunker down. At least with the bad weather I do not have to worry about Oli wandering too far from the boat. In fact, sensible animal that he is, he isn't setting one foot outside of Sylph's cosy saloon. All is well. |
