I often lie in my bunk at night listening to the sounds of the boat; the waves rushing past the hull, the creak of the vang-preventer, the clatter of the odd loose block, the clinking of a jar not properly secured in a drawer, the hiss and roar of a wave breaking, and, over the last several weeks, the near continuous howl of the wind. I listen to hear for any untoward sounds that might indicate something is not quite right and requires investigation, but also, mainly, because it is peaceful. Whereas the last several weeks have rarely been peaceful, last night I lay in my bunk and sighed a deep sigh of contentment. The wind had at last stopped howling.
95 miles to Amsterdam Island.
All is well.
