Kate, having sold up in Wollongong, is in the market for a property somewhere, pretty much anywhere at this stage, but she does have an interest in Tasmania, which is a large part of what has brought us back to the Apple Isle.  For my part, Sylph needs a haul-out soon and the haul-out rates in the Tamar seem pretty reasonable, so I am checking out the various slipways in the region.

With these needs in mind, yesterday we caught the flood tide and motor the short distance to Beauty Point and the Tamar River Yacht Club Marina.  The Yacht Club’s manager, Ron, kindly met us at a public pontoon and guided us to a comfortable berth. In the afternoon we wandered around the village to check out the shore side of things, and this morning we met the owner of the slipway, David, to check out his facilities. The slipway has two traditional rail slips, one small and one large. While there isn’t much in the way of infrastructure in Beauty Point, the small yard has lots of character, has quite a good workshop attached, and Dave is friendly and seems like he would be very helpful, so his facility looks quite appealing. On the down side we probably would not be able to haul out until the 7th of May.

In the meantime, we will continue to explore the Tamar with  the view to getting as far as Launceston.

All is well.
