Winter Voyage Complete
Position: 34 25.17 S 150 54.30 E The fresh southerly breeze had us scooting up the coast making excellent time. We arrived off Wollongong twenty-one hours after our departure from Narooma, an average speed of six knots, but it wasn’t all plain sailing. The wind backed and veered quite a bit during the night which, on top of a few course alterations around Jervis Bay, had me gybing several times, and the odd rain squall required an extra reef in the mainsail as they passed over. We arrived off Wollongong Harbour just before ten and were greeted by fellow Wollongong Yacht Club member, Bob Cooper, who kindly came out to us in the club tender, Trim, to help us secure to our mooring and facilitate unloading. Thank you, Bob. This short but challenging voyage, particularly for Kate, has helped both of us learn a lot about each other in the demanding environment of a small sailing vessel at sea. No doubt we will have much to think and talk about in the weeks ahead. All is well.
