We have enjoyed a pleasant sail since leaving Southport, mostly downhill, running wing-on-wing. The wind freshened in the evening which saw a reef in the mainsail until 0400, when the wind eased and allowed me to shake it out. Since then we have been running with full main and the jib poled out to starboard.
We will be passing Coffs Harbour at around 2000 and the question is do we pull in for the night or keep on going. A front is expected to pass through at around midnight bringing fresh to strong S’ly winds but by tomorrow morning the wind will have eased and started backing into the East and North.
My inclination at this stage is to take shelter in Coffs Harbour for the night then continue on our way in the morning, but I will likely spend this afternoon poring over the weather charts, grib files and weather routing software; procrastinating until later in the day when a decision will have to be made.
All is well.
