We have now settled into something of a shore routine. Days are mostly taken up with some boat chores and in the afternoons and evenings I have been working on my model ship.
On the boat maintenance side, last week I removed the reefing winch from the boom and dealt with some corrosion that had developed underneath the base. The boom is aluminium and despite a generous application of anti-corrosion paste when I last reinstalled
the winch, no doubt the close proximity of dissimilar metals, the base of the winch being bronze, led to the aluminium acting as an anode to the bronze in the presence of lots of salt sea spray.
On the brig-of-war side, I have completed coppering the hull and have now turned my attention to the bow with its complicated trail boards, cheek pieces, figurehead, and other bits and pieces I know not the names of. This work has been slow and fiddly but it
is keep my mind busy while sitting still in harbour.
All is well.
