Last night we came to anchor in Batemans Bay then this morning at high water I weighed and motored across the bar into the Clyde River, there to look for a friend's boat, Talisman.

Talisman … she is to be delivered to Sydney to be sold. A sad story not to be told here, but I said I would look her over to make sure she was ready for the short voyage north. Getting across the bar into the river was not without its dramas, I followed the leads in, it was close to the top of the tide but it seems the bar has silted up quite a bit and Sylph ended up bouncing a couple of times before getting back into deeper water again.

My task here is complete and I am keen to continue south. We have a strong northerly forecast for tonight and tomorrow which I want to make the most of to get down to Twofold Bay before a front comes through on Thursday. The weather forecasters are predicting west to north west winds behind the front which should still be favourable as opposed to the customary strong southerlies. But quite frankly I do not trust the forecast and would prefer to be snugly at anchor before the it arrives. The only problem now is getting back across the bar. Guess we are just going to have to get out the same way we came in and probably bounce a couple of times. Ouch!

All is well.
