It is now 7 p.m., just going on sunset and I am pleased to report that the
gale has been and passed. In fact now I am lolloping along in the residual
slop which is a bit bouncy but we are sort of heading in the right direction
which will do for now. The gale came in a little early, about midday, and
had me down to storm jib and trysail, perhaps a bit of overkill but the
forecast was for 35 knots and I really cannot afford to lose another sail.
My storm rig handled the short lived gale no problems, though I doubt
whether the wind got much past 30. It is a bit of a pain to set up,
especially when the wind is up and the seas are building (which is of course
when we need it) bit of a wet job I'm afraid.
As I write the wind is freshening a little from the northwest so I expect I
may be back to reduced sail later this evening, but it should be good for
where I want to go, Annapolis, MARY-land.
